Online "Fall Color Finder" helps track peak fall foliage in Minnesota

    2024-09-07

Saint Paul, Minn. (WKBT) -- The Minnesota DNR is encouraging the public to embrace the approaching fall colors season.

Peak timeframe in Minnesota for fall foliage typically lands between mid-to-late-September and mid-October.

The DNR advises people to book camping spots now for weekend getaways to state parks to catch the brilliant colors. They also suggest using their online "Fall Color Finder" to track colors around the state. The website includes a color-coded map that shows the percentages of leaves that have changed color.

A feature that's new this year - a date slider that forecasts what colors will look like on a specific date.

The finder is compiled of photos from the public as well as state park staff who track color progression.

The public is encouraged to submit their photos of fall leaves to the website.
