    Reentry Simulation | La Crosse

LA CROSSE (WKBT) -- UWL students got the chance to experience the realities of life after incarceration Monday.

The reentry simulation was put on by the department of correction.

It allows students to confront the challenges faced by people reentering into society after incarceration.

Participants took on the identity of an incarcerated individual and completed tasks they would have to complete after being released.

The game is meant to demonstrate how difficult readjusting back to society can be.

"Students are experiencing and learning just how challenging it is to reenter successfully. We have 95 percent of the population who are incarcerated that will be released at some point. And within 3-5 years about two-thirds to three-fourths will end up back in jail," said Associate Professor Lisa Kruz.

The Department of Corrections say the game will allow participants to become more sympathetic to those readjusting to society after incarceration.
