MONROE COUNTY, Wis. (WKBT) -- A three-day jury trial is set for the former clerk accused of stealing thousands from the Village of Wilton.

Online court records show 40-year-old Leigha Barton is scheduled for a jury trial beginning on May 6 of next year.

Barton is charged with 20 felonies, accused of stealing thousands of dollars from the Village of Wilton through use of unauthorized credit cards, per the criminal complaint. She served as the Village clerk and treasurer from 2021 to 2023.

Barton stood mute at her arraignment in July and not guilty pleas were entered for all counts. She's out on a $10,000 signature bond.

Seems to long of a time before trial. She is guilty as hell and admitted as much. There is no way she will ever payback the citizens of the community. Maximum sentence should be put upon her. Let her be an example to others.
