Tellurian Behavioral Health receives $30k grant to support new facility in La Crosse

LA CROSSE (WKBT) -- Tellurian Behavioral Health is receiving a $30,000 grant to help open their new facility in La Crosse.

Tellurian is a non-profit organization that provides care and treatment programs to people struggling with mental health, substance abuse and homelessness.

Tellurians' new facility on Jackson St. will provide short-term care to individuals experiencing an acute mental health crisis. The organization has received several local grants to help build the program, including $50,000 from the La Crosse Community Foundation.

The latest funds come from a Non-State Grant Program that is designed to support organizations and projects that improve communities in Wisconsin.

The $30,000 will be used to work on the building, helping Tellurian move closer to opening its doors.

Tellurian's La Crosse Social Services Manager, Tim Blumentritt, said the funding will contribute to improving the experience of seeking care during a crisis.

"Giving them access to the services that are meant to help them, at the time they really need it most, to eliminate long wait periods in emergency rooms and eliminate human suffering for those that are experiencing a mental health crisis."

The new facility will have 8 beds located in a "home-like environment," which Blumentritt said is an important part of a person's recovery.

While an opening date has not been set, Blumentritt said they hope to have it ready soon.
