LA CROSSE (WKBT) -- The La Crosse Police Department is welcoming a new four-legged friend.

The police department announced a new therapy puppy, Hank, is joining the ranks as part of their wellness initiatives.

Hank joins another canine, Cheddar, in their mission to provide support for department members and community outreach.

"Law enforcement is a demanding profession mentally and physically for those serving. We are always looking at innovative ways to provide support for our staff," said Chief Shawn Kudron. "When Cheddar joined the department, we saw firsthand the difference he was making by providing support in times of crisis, after critical incidents and how he helped break down those barriers and build relationships with community members. As Chief, I wanted to provide this form of support for the men and women of the La Crosse Police Department. Therapy dogs have a calming effect, and providing this wellness resource to staff is very important to me."

Hank comes to the police department from the same place as Cheddar, Blueberry Cottage Labradoodles in Osseo.
