Dozens report 'fireball' sighting over Midwest

BLACK RIVER FALLS, Wis. (WKBT) -- Multiple reports seem to suggest a meteor streaked across the sky Friday morning.

According to the American Meteor Society, 74 reports came in of a "fireball" seen over Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota and Wisconsin at 6:13 a.m.

Data from AMS witness reports suggest the trajectory of the event went somewhere between Black River Falls and Neillsville, headed southeast.

Viewer Peggy Hooverson shared a photo of the contrail left by the event, saying that she saw a flash in the sky and then minutes later heard a loud boom.

The AMS received 16 photos of the event. You can find those by clicking or tapping here.
