A 32-year-old man died in a fatal traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.

On Friday, August 16, 2024, at 8:19 p.m., the Santa Ana Police Department received multiple calls regarding a hit- and-run traffic collision involving a pedestrian in the area of Fairview Street and Harvard Street .

SAPD officers and Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) responded to the scene and located a man lying on the ground unconscious. Despite life-saving measures, OCFA pronounced the pedestrian deceased at the scene.

Based on the preliminary investigation, the pedestrian was illegally walking across Fairview St. at Harvard St. in a crosswalk while northbound and southbound traffic was flowing. The vehicle was traveling northbound on Fairview St. when it struck the pedestrian.

The driver of the vehicle, a female adult, returned to the scene minutes later and cooperated with the investigation. The vehicle had damage consistent with being involved in a collision.

At this time, alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor. This incident is being investigated as a possible hit- and-run, and the cause of the collision remains under investigation.

The decedent’s name is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin by the Orange County Coroner’s Office.

The Santa Ana Police Department’s Collision Investigations Unit (CIU) is investigating this incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective K. Briley at (714) 245-8215 or the Santa Ana Police Department’s Traffic Division at (714) 245-8200.
