Creators can now earn badges for special achievements

We’re excited to roll out a new feature exclusively for our creators: badges! Starting now, creators will be awarded special designations on their NewsBreak profiles and within the creator portal when they achieve noteworthy milestones.

As our Creator Program grows, it becomes increasingly important to recognize role model creators that consistently share compelling stories and news from their local communities. Badges will help surface trustworthy creators for NewsBreak users to follow by prominently displaying a badge on the creator’s profile page and on our newsfeed, and by activating lists within the NewsBreak app that spotlight local creators that have achieved a specific badge.

Three badges are currently available. Read more about them below.

Local Expert: Creators will earn a “Local Expert” badge once they’ve published a minimum 50 stories from their location that cover a range of community-focused topics and news.

Top Contributor: Creators will earn a “Top Contributor” badge once they’ve achieved a minimum of 1,000 followers and 50,000 cumulative page views on their stories.

NewsBreak Select: This special badge recognizes creators who have published a minimum of 10 local stories in the past two months with an average CV score of 4+. Other considerations include page views, content quality and location (i.e. creators must reside in the place they are writing about).

In addition to meeting the above criteria, badges are awarded to creators that uphold NewsBreak's mission of helping connect people to their local communities through news, events, and information, and continually follow our Creator Content Requirements and Creator Content Policy. NewsBreak will regularly evaluate creator profiles and award or remove badges as necessary.

Badges can be seen on the NewsBreak website, within the creator portal, and on the Android app, with plans to roll out iOS in the near future.
