To commemorate Earth Day, NewsBreak invited contributors to submit stories to our Protecting the Planet content campaign, which aimed to help local communities discover unique ways to take care of the Earth. While the Earth is vast, we were particularly interested in stories that center local communities, and contributors delivered. From highlighting neighborhood sustainability initiatives and beautiful nature in their areas to spotlighting leaders and businesses that are making a difference when it comes to preserving the environment, contributors shared an array of stories about maintaining our beautiful Earth and all its resources.

Among the many incredible stories submitted for this campaign, Kateable's story on eco-friendly shops in Portland stood out. Kateable's story is service-oriented; it helps readers determine reputable and convenient places they can donate and shop for reuseable goods. As Kateable notes, "While we celebrate Earth Day in April, we can take care of the earth all year round, especially with our shopping." Her story enables readers to do just that, which is why it's NewsBreak's choice in the Editor's Pick category.

The two other stories that are our Top Story winners, meaning they were the most engaged with by people from the contributor's local area, are Bethany Latham's story on Pennsylvania's pollinator license plates and Daily News Now's story on potential cuts to Arizona's water supply.

Bethany's story spotlights how a new license plate offered in the state will bolster a program that plants roadside pollinator flower beds to support pollinators that are essential to Pennsylvania's agriculture and economy. Daily News Now's story, on the other hand, unpacks how "a plan proposed by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation threatens to force significant cuts to the water made available to the state of Arizona."

Congratulations to all our winners and thank you to everyone who submitted stories! You can check out all the content campaign submissions here.
