In honor of Mother’s Day, NewsBreak held a content campaign to celebrate the maternal figures in local communities across the country. In response, contributors from all over the US submitted stories about women leaders in their area, women-owned businesses, profiles on women who take care of something and aid in its growth (whether that be a local program, children, pets, etc.), and local Mother’s Day events and places to take the important women in their lives. Here are our campaign winners!

    🏆 1 Editor’s Pick 🏆

Contributor Ashleigh Nicole won in the Editor's Pick category for her story about Carolyn Potter, the CEO of a company in Birmingham, Alabama called Wellhouse, who is working to help survivors of human trafficking. Ashleigh's story about Carolyn's impactful work is inspiring. As Ashleigh writes, "As someone who has personally benefited from Carolyn Potter's motherly influence, I can attest to the incredible impact she has had on survivors of trafficking. When I was struggling with the trauma of my experience, I found refuge and support at Wellhouse, thanks in large part to Carolyn's leadership and care."

    🎗 2 Top Stories 🎗

M Henderson won in the Top Story category for her story about where to celebrate Mother's Day in Baton Rouge. From a Mother's Day buffet with delicious offerings like roast duck to a classic wine bistro, M Henderson offers a variety of options and includes information about reservations. Local readers couldn't go wrong with her picks!

Our second winner in the Top Story category was Chicago-based contributor Jennifer Geer for her local Mother's Day gift guide. From a chocolate heart-shaped cake from Portillo's to naming a Brookfield Zoo parakeet after your mom, Jennifer comes through with unique and creative gift ideas!

Congratulations to our winners! You can learn more about how to enter our June Pride and Father's Day campaigns here.
