Congratulations to our September mini content contest winners!

Last month, we invited NewsBreak contributors to submit their stories for four different mini content contests. Today we're excited to announce the winners of those contests!

For our Rosh Hashanah contest, contributor Cheryl Preston wins for her story that looks at how the Jewish New Year holiday is celebrated in her community in Roanoke, Virginia. According to Cheryl's story, a number of temples in the area, including Beth Israel Temple and Temple Emanuel, held services and events commemorating the day.

Mexican Independence Day, which took place on September 16, commemorates the day Don Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla urged the people to take up arms against the Spanish authorities, according to The Economic Times. Contributor Greta Nunez wins the contest for her story about the significance of the day. As she writes, many people believe Cinco de Mayo is Mexican Independence Day, but this is not true; instead, people celebrate Mexico's independence in September by, attending "colorful parades featuring mariachi bands, folkloric dancers, and floats adorned with bright flowers and national symbols."

Contributor Colorado Martini wins for her story on National Black Women's Equal Pay Day. In her story, Colorado Martini examines how Black women lose over $1.8K a month or $900k over their career and takes a look at Senate Bill 23-105, a new bill which amends Colorado’s Equal Pay for Equal Work Act.

Finally, Senai wins for her story on American Business Women's Day. She explores different ways to commemorate the holiday, including mentorship opportunities and supporting women-owned businesses.
