My house has been on 100% solar power for 6 years. No grid tie. It's a relatively small solar array and improved each year with better components. Switching over to LEDs and 12 volt appliances helped a lot. Working from home allows me to live with the weather (e.g., use more power when the sun is shining).

According to the article “Henry Krull, the owner of Whistle Hill and Peninsula Solar, a local solar panel design and installation company”. Does this mean he is also the company that got paid to design and install this for his own property? It doesn’t say how much the grant was for phase 1 (buying all the solar panels), but if Phase 2 grants only cover 50% of the cost then this project ran over a million dollars. So how many years do you think it will take before you have “free” electricity? Just another example of dreaming doesn’t mean reality. And of course not taking into account that the solar panels and equipment will need to be replaced long before you can get to break even costs on the current installation. And the environmental cost of producing and disposing of the panels (of course it’s probably done in China so out of site out of mind)?
