Coach [Rachel] Franklin and I are incredibly proud of our team, they work hard each day, are coachable, they are great teammates and a joy to be around,” said DC head coach Amy Martinson.Friday, the Chargers closed out the regular season with a 6-5 loss to Kimball (19-1), ranked #6 in Class AA, by a 6-5 score.Prior to the game against Kimball, the Chargers were awarded the #1 seed in the Section 3AA North division.Section 3AA is divided into two halves, the North and the South.Section Seedings for the North:<ol><li>Dassel-Cokato</li><li>Morris</li><li>NLS</li><li>KMS</li><li>Litchfield</li><li>Minnewaska</li><li>Montevideo</li><li>The Chargers were scheduled to host the first round of the playoffs Tuesday. #4 Kasson-Mantorville and #5 Litchfield would square off in game one, with DC playing the winner.</li><li>However, due to weather, those games were rescheduled for Thursday.</li><li>After Thursday, the rest of the section tournament will be held in Marshall, with games scheduled for Saturday, Tuesday, and Thursday.</li><li>The Section 3AA South Division looks like this:</li><li>1 .Luverne</li><li>Windom</li><li>Jackson County Central</li><li>Pipestone</li><li>Minneota/Canby</li><li>Redwood Valley</li></ol>DC 4, New London 0NEW LONDON – The Chargers jumped on the Wildcats early, scoring two runs in the first and third innings, and it was more than enough with Aubrey Quern on the mound.Quern gave up just two hits and two walks, while striking out 17.In the first, Genna O’Brien led off with a single, followed by a double off the bat of Madi Yager to put runners on second and third.After an out, Hannah Putnam singled home O’Brien, and Yager scored on an error off the bat of Chloe Vorwerk.The Chargers scored two more in the top of the third.Anyah Guennigsman started the inning off with a one-out single, advancing to second on an error.Guennigsman advanced to third on a groundout by Putnam, and scored on a single by Vorwerk.Vorwerk advanced to second on a wild pitch, and Naomi Schmitz singled to score Vorwerk.That would be more than enough for Quern, who allowed just four baserunners in the game.Corbin had two hits for DC.The Chargers did not commit an error in the field, while the Wildcats committed six.<h2>6AA Kimball 6, DC 5</h2>KIMBALL – With their top section seed and Wright County Conference West title already in place, the Chargers traveled to Kimball for the final game of the regular season Friday.The Cubs came into the game ranked #6 in Class AA, with a 19-1 record.Their only loss? To Annandale (9-11), of all teams, by a 7-2 score. A team the Chargers defeated twice.No matter, the game must go on.Kimball scored a single run in each of the first two innings to take a 2-0 lead.In the fifth, the Chargers rallied for three runs to go on top 3-2.Hannah Corbin led off with a single and took third on an error. She was thrown out at the plate on a bunt by Bree Hopkins.Emily Vacek walked, and Genna O’Brien grounded into a fielders choice, with Hopkins being thrown out at home.Madi Yager reached a fielders choice to load the bases, and Vacek scored on a wild pitch.Anyah Guennigsman ripped a two-run double to score both O’Brien and Yager, putting DC on top 3-2.Unfortunately, Kimball scored three runs to retake the lead, 5-3, in the bottom of the fifth.Down to their last at-bats, DC scored twice in the top of the seventh to tie the game.Vacek was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, and after two outs, Guennigsman launched a two-run home run.Kimball got a leadoff walk by Riley Fischer in the bottom of the seventh, at which point Aubrey Quern replaced O’Brien.Quern gave up a walk to put runners on first and second, got a strikeout, and the #4 hitter Allison Leither reached on an error to load the bases with one out.Quern got a strikeout on the next batter, but Fischer scored on a wild pitch to give the Cubs the victory.Guennigsman had two hits and drove in all four runs for DC.Only one of the runs charged to O’Brien was earned, as the Chargers defense committed four errors.O’Brien gave up five hits and four walks, while striking out three.</div></body>
