Battling back from last night’s tournament opener, Upstate jumped out and took control of the momentum with a three-run first before building its lead to 5-1 exiting the first third of the game. The Spartans grew a 6-3 lead heading to the stretch before Presbyterian punched back with a grand slam to take the lead for the first time. Upstate answered with a run in the eighth to tie the game before the Blue Hose retook the lead in the home half. The Spartans, however, were not fazed, battling back to push two runs across in the ninth with redshirt senior first baseman Grant Sherrod driving home the equalizer before freshman catcher Tyler Lang wore an HBP with the base loaded, sending home the go-ahead tally. Junior right-handed pitcher Trent Hodgdon—pitching for the second time in as many games for Upstate—shut the door on the victory, earning the win as he allowed one hit over 2.0 innings with two strikeouts. At the plate, redshirt junior right-fielder Koby Kropf, redshirt senior shortstop Troy Hamilton, and freshman third baseman Vance Sheahan each recorded a multi-hit and multi-RBI game, driving home two RBI apiece.
