Eligible individuals for this team include those from the Bluegrass, Corner, Hawkeye Ten, Pride of Iowa, Rolling Valley and Western Iowa Conferences + all Council Bluffs schools and all KMAland Nebraska and KMAland Missouri schools. No individual will be selected for more than one event. This creates some challenges with putting the team together, but also allots for as many deserving KMAland athletes as possible to claim this honor.This year’s team of 18 standouts features five repeat selections. This team is a senior-heavy group with 12 of them. It also features four juniors, one sophomore and one freshman. Here they are:100 Meter Dash: Brody Cullin, Senior, ShenandoahCullin was a key cog in Shenandoah's super relay team that won the 4x100 and sprint medley and finished second in the 4x200. He also finished fourth in the 100. 200 Meter Dash: Cade Sears, Senior, HarlanThe future South Dakota State football player could have been a multi-time champ in the sprints if not for ADM's Brevin Doll and Aiden Flora. Sears finished third in both the 100 and 200 and anchored Harlan's champion 4x100 team. 400 Meter Dash: Ryce Reynolds, Senior, Mount Ayr *REPEAT SELECTION* One of the best to ever do it in KMAland. The future Stanford athlete ended his career with titles in the 400, 400 hurdles and sprint medley. He set records in the 400 and 400 hurdles and became the first Iowa boy to win both events three times. What a career. Eichhorn closed his career at Lewis Central with a trio of third-place finishes. He was also the Hawkeye Ten champion in the 1600 and 3200. 1600 Meter Run: Landon Bendgen, Senior, Woodbine *REPEAT SELECTION*Bendgen went out in style at state as he won the 800, 1600 and 3200. He also nearly pulled off a distance medley relay title. His awesomeness helped the Tigers finish second in Class 1A. 3200 Meter Run: Riley Blay, Senior, Nodaway Valley *REPEAT SELECTION*Another legendary career coming to a close. The 2024 KMAland Missouri Boys Track &amp; Field Athlete of the Year won the 1600 and 3200, bringing his career title count to 10 across track and cross country. 110 Meter Hurdles: Gabe Funk, Junior, Lenox *REPEAT SELECTION*Funk finally got his long-overdue flowers in terms of an individual title. He was close last year, but got over the hump this year with a title in the 110 hurdles. He also anchored a shuttle hurdle relay team that set a state record and was second in the 400 hurdles and sprint medley. With Reynolds gone, this is your early leader for KMAland Track Athlete of the Year in 2025. 300 Meter Hurdles: August Meadows, Junior, Mound CityMeadows was a key cog in Mound City's team title. Meadows won the 300 hurdles, finished second in the 110 hurdles and also helped Mound City get runner-up finishes in the 4x200 and 4x400. 400 Meter Hurdles: Karson Elwood, Senior, TreynorElwood was the top KMAland finisher in this event not named Reynolds or Funk. He finished third in the 400 hurdles and also was a big part of runner-up 4x100 and shuttle hurdle teams. High Jump: Trevon Keely, Freshman, Paton-ChurdanCue the chant about being a freshman. Keely put the rest of the state on notice with a runner-up finish at state. He's got three more chances to capture a title. Long Jump: Mason Boothby, Senior, UnderwoodWhat a career for Boothby. The multi-sport star nearly captured the state title, but had to settle for the best finish of his career -- a runner-up. He was also part of Underwood's medalist shuttle hurdle and 4x400 teams. Discus: Maxwell Tiarks, Senior, UnderwoodThe John Tiarks workout plan of steaks, weights and hay bales worked out well for Maxwell. Tiarks went from missing state last year to winning state in the discus this year with a personal record throw of 181 feet. Tiarks was also second in the shot put. He was one of only two KMAland Iowans to medal in both the shot put and discus. What a year for the 2024 KMAland Field Athlete of the Year. Shot Put: Sam Clements, Senior, Elmwood-MurdockHere's another thrower that went from pretty good to great in a year. Clements went over 60 feet(!) in the shot put this year. He won that event in Class C, while also finishing fourth in the discus, earning KMAland Nebraska Track &amp; Field Athlete of the Year. Javelin: Ean Meyer, Senior, Platte ValleyMeyer was the top KMAland boy in this event. He finished fifth at state with a throw of 45.90 metersPole Vault: Nate Giffin, Senior, StanberryReally impressive close to Giffin's career. He collected four medals, including a fifth-place finish in this event. He also medaled in the 400, 200 and 4x400. Triple Jump: Justin Miller, Junior, Platte ValleyMiller was sixth in Class 1 at this event. He went 6.22 meters. Google tells me that's just over 20 feet. Track At-Large: Brady Wallace, Junior, TreynorTurns out track is a game of inches. Wallace finished second in the 110 hurdles, shuttle hurdle and 4x100, but he was fractions of a second away from being a multi-champ. His overall body of work this season was way too good to exclude. Field At-Large: Morgan Cooley, Sophomore, East Union Cooley was one of the KMAland breakouts this year. He joins Tiarks as the only KMAlanders to medal in both throws. He was second in the shot put and seventh in the discus. Can't wait to see what he does the next two years.
