The State ENDORSEMENT COMMITTEE was his vetting process, not the "establishment", the "political elite", or the "donor class". He passed the vetting process at first, but then they found that he lied on it. He didn't disclose that he had been charged with bank fraud. He'd forged a deceased relative's name on a bank loan that was for himself. Then the flood gates opened: He'd been courtmartialed in the military, claimed it was a cousin with the same name, and then came clean and said it was because of a racist. He'd had a service revolver in the trunk of his car when it was repossessed and the car dealer had to turn it into the police. Then he left a job and didn't turn his badge and pistol in. It took the police two years of tracking him down to get it back.
