A Burlington police officer was seriously injured Wednesday morning when an SUV hit him while he was working a construction detail, according to police. Sgt. Timothy Kirchner, who has been a reserve Burlington police officer since his retirement in June, was working an Eversource work site detail at 34 Cambridge St. when a Chevrolet Equinox suddenly jumped the curb and hit him around 11:45 a.m., the police department said in a press release. The collision threw Kirchner into the air, and he landed on the SUV.
