Check back weekly for the best things we ate this week.Nanchang dry rice noodles at We NoodleSome new noodles in town originated in Nanchang, the capital of Jiangxi, an inland province northwest of Fujian and southwest of Shanghai: The area is known for the high quality of its rice, so don’t be surprised that this dish ($12) features delicate rice noodles slicked with sesame oil laced with ginger, garlic, and chiles. Heaped on top, there’s ground pork, roasted peanuts, and scallions, for a distinctively flavored bowl of noodles. And I can’t say we experienced the complete vibe this time around, sneaking in for about 30 minutes before a matinee, instead of drinking with the late-night, post-show crowd. But I’m still glad I got the chance to try their iconic La Scala salad ($24), an antipasto dish that has proven one of the restaurant’s most popular items. A somewhat perfunctory plate of greens gets piled with a gargantuan mound of tiny cubes of chopped salami and cheese, plus other accents like chickpeas and pepperoncini. The creamy Italian dressing on the side is so thick you can’t really pour it, but all the flavors meld together successfully. Seating over 400 people at 135 tables, it’s a vast addition to city’s Taiwanese restaurant landscape. I especially loved the restaurant’s savory and delicate soup dumplings ($18 to $22), famously made with 18 folds (or 20, depending who you ask) stuffed with pork, chicken, or crab.
