With more than half of 2024 already behind us, it feels like a good time to look back at what the year has offered in terms of television. The first half of 2024 was kind to TV lovers, with the return of fan-favorite shows like "The Boys" and "House of the Dragon." Meanwhile, debuting series such as "Fallout" and "Shōgun" blew viewers away and were very much deserving of all the plaudits. However, not all that glitters on the small screen is gold, as evidenced by a number of shows that sank below the depths of mediocrity in the first part of 2024. In some cases, not even a stellar cast or goodwill from fans of the original IP could save some of the shows on this list.

The Worst TV Shows Of 2024 So Far

The entertainment world is saddened by the loss of actress and comedian Erica Ash, who has passed away at the age of 46. Known for her varied roles in television, film, and theatre, Ash brought a unique blend of humour and talent to her performances. The news of her passing was confirmed by fellow comedian and friend Loni Love, who shared the announcement on social media. Love wrote in a heartfelt tribute on Instagram that Ash was "talented and hilarious", and her post included several photos of her and Ash, capturing moments from Ash's appearance on The Real, which Love co-hosted.

In 1964, Don Knotts was looking for a new gig. He was approaching the fifth season of what was intended to be a five-year run on The Andy Griffith Show, the series that had made him famous and earned him three consecutive Primetime Emmys for his portrayal of the bumbling but soft-hearted Deputy Barney Fife. (Two more statuettes would follow in 1966 and 1967 for guest appearances on the show.) But Knotts knew his time in Mayberry was ending. He dreamed of being a movie star, and in 1966, he got his first genuine box-office hit with The Ghost and Mr. Chicken—with more than a bit of help from his Mayberry cohorts.

“This is just an extra, incredibly great little treat,” admits Matthew Broderick of his recent Emmy nomination for the Hulu series “Only Murders in the Building.” The thespian is nominated in the Comedy Guest Actor category for his meta appearance in the episode titled “Cobro.” It’s Broderick’s second time at the Emmys, having scored his first bid exactly 30 years ago for a screen adaptation of “A Life in the Theatre.” It seems appropriate that this Broadway veteran would be honored once more for a theater-themed story. “I had such a good part that John Hoffman gave me,” says Broderick, referencing the series’ creator, “and I was working with people I knew mostly and who I love, and I had such a good time doing it.” Watch the exclusive video interview above.
