It’s the first time Medicare has been able to bargain with drug manufacturers for cheaper prices and could ease the burden for millions of Americans. NBC’s Brian Cheung joins TODAY.

Medicare lowers prices on 10 common prescription drugs

The negotiated prices range from 38% to 79% discounts off of list prices, according to the Department of Health and Human Services. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services this morning released the prices for the first 10 drugs that have been negotiated for Medicare Part D. The new prices will go into effect beginning January 1, 2026. (Table below)

According to Newsweek The U.S. Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) has announced new maximum payment amounts for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, effective from October 2024. These changes will apply across 49 states and U.S. territories, with the exception of one state where benefits will decrease. The updated maximum benefit amounts will remain in effect through the 2025 fiscal year until the next Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) is set for 2026.
