A mainstay musician in the vibrant and exciting jazz scene of New York City, Russian-born pianist Misha Tsiganov presents his fifth Criss Cross album, Painter of Dreams, which features six original compositions and two familiar reimagined standards, with every piece but one running from between eight to eleven-minutes in length. The pianist expands his musical boundaries, implements new elements, augments the horn section and, with regard to his own playing, states that he was moved to include an "entirely acoustic soundscape...liberally weaving the Rhodes and Minimoog into the flow" and inviting the flexible voice of Dutch vocalist Hiske Jeltine Oosterwijk.

Legendary session guitarist Larry Carlton has a deep catalog of memorable tracks that featured his playing. He announced that he was going to follow Frank Sinatra's dictum to always start a show with two songs the audience knows, then launched into "Minute By Minute," the The Doobie Brothers tune that he covered on his album Discovery (MCA Records, 1987). A sly introduction began the Steely Dan track "Black Friday" from Katy Lied (ABC Records, 1975). The vocal line was played by the tenor saxophonist until Carlton took it over on guitar: it was easy to hear the song, even without the vocals. Carlton jokingly announced that "tonight's all about me." The next piece would be one he wrote in 1986 (and still on the radio): "Smiles and Smiles to Go" from his album Alone / But Never Alone (MCA Records, 1986). A friend had told him that he wrote it to have a playground to run wild in, and he seemed to really enjoy going there again.

Actor Buddy Ebsen, who died at age 95 in 2003, found fame by starring in two of the most popular classic television shows in history: The Beverly Hillbillies (CBS, 1962 to 1971) and Barnaby Jones (CBS, 1973 to 1980). On the Hillbillies, he played former Tennessee country mountain-folk-turned-wealthy Beverly Hills resident Jed Clampett. On Barnaby Jones, he was one of TV's most senior, slyest, health-conscious detectives.
