During an interview with the Attitude Era Podcast, WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart reflected on the Montreal Screwjob from the 1997 Survivor Series…. “The Montreal Screwjob and all the lies and things they did to me. I have so much respect for what I did. If you were in my shoes, after everything that I did for them, for them to do what they did to me. I always hear this crap like I heard Undertaker say, ‘they had to do what they were going to do. There was no other option.’ Bullshit. I had another six weeks left on my contract. There were a million things that could have been done. It was a case of liars, cheaters, backstabbers, and guys that made that moment happen. Shawn, Triple H, Vince McMahon. I wish I knocked them all out. I have no regrets. It was the single greatest thing I ever did.”

The Dead Man spoke about the matter on Impaulsive, recounting how he was concerned that he was going to be debuting as whatever came out of the egg that WWE had been hyping for the PPV. At the time, the Attitude Era was at its peak, and WWE was regularly pushing the envelope on television. Whether it was Mae Young giving birth to a hand or an incapacitated Stephanie McMahon unknowingly getting married to Triple H via a drive-through wedding chapel in Las Vegas, WWE's Attitude Era was filled with some memorable moments that are murky and questionable, at best, upon reflection.

Bret Hart has been open about his opinion that Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff were responsible for WCW’s death, and he expanded on his stance recently. Hart was an interviewee for Vice’s Who Killed WCW? docuseries where he put the blame on Hogan and Bischoff, something he was asked about in an appearance on the Attitude Era Podcast. Hart related it to his segment where he tricked Goldberg into spearing him when he had a steel plate on and said Hogan had to be consulted on it.

Even if we killed it and had such a great time while we were out there, it was just the needless anxiety of getting to the finish line just made it so not fun. So, unfortunately, it’s kind of put a gross kind of a film on the incredible experience. I hear from everybody that’s so much better now, and I’m happy for them. But it’s also, I got babies, I can’t be taking them on the road. I did it for a little bit with one, I can’t do that with two. It was hard on my husband for us not all to be there all the time. I just don’t think I can ask them to sacrifice that anymore.”
