The Xbox brand has been getting tons of headlines over the last 24 hours, and not in a positive way. There’s been plenty being shown and said during Gamescom that makes many wonder what the brand’s fate will be going forward. Naturally, the team is attempting to “wave off” any “misgivings” that may appear obvious, including by trying to cloud the news with some reveals. For example, Microsoft dropped a trailer highlighting three new types of Xbox Series X/S models that players can get. Each has its own “unique variation” to separate it from the others. Microsoft has announced two new Xbox Series X consoles and one new Xbox Series S console will be released on October 15, 2024, including a digital-only Xbox Series X. The consoles, which are now available to preorder, were outlined on Xbox Wire, where Microsoft confirmed the impending simultaneous release for the All-Digital Xbox Series X, the Special Edition 2TB Xbox Series X, and the 1TB Xbox Series S in Robot White (previously only available in Carbon Black).

Microsoft is rumored to be developing several upcoming titles and one of the consoles some believe to be in development is an Xbox hybrid console similar to the Nintendo Switch. However, according to Windows Central’s JezCorden this turns out to be false. In the latest episode of the Xbox Two podcast, Corden stated that the console will be a standard home console but will have a handheld as an add on. “I’ll tell you now: there’s going to be a separate handheld and there’s going to be an Xbox Series X successor,” he said. “It’s going to be two different things. They’re not just going to try and go all in on handheld only; they’re going to do a more traditional console for the Series X people and then a handheld. […] I’m predicting a Series X successor, a handheld, and the end of the paywall for premium multiplayer games.”
