Nashtifan is the name of a village in Northeastern Iran, close to the Afghanistan border. Nashtifan translates to “storm’s sting,” and is named for the area’s uniquely powerful winds. On the southern edge of town, an ancient 65-foot-tall earthen wall protects residents from the famous Bad-i-sad-o-bist-roz, or wind of 120 days, a fearsome local wind that blows constantly from June through September that Lord Curzon described as "the most vile and abominable in the universe.”
