Southern California pop punk/hardcore blenders Stateside left a big impression when they opened the Koyo, Anxious, One Step Closer tour earlier this year, and now they’ve signed to Pure Noise, which is also home to Koyo (and The Story So Far, SeeYouSpaceCowboy, Knocked Loose, Drug Church, and a bunch of others). Their first single for the label is “Thirty Mile Stretch,” which comes on a 7″ (co-released by their former label, New Morality Zine) that also includes the song they put out right before the tour in March, “Since Last Season.” Picking up where that song and their 2023 debut EP It’s What We Do left off, “Thirty Mile Stretch” is a hardcore-infused pop punk bottle rocket in the vein of stuff like New Found Glory, Saves The Day, The Movielife, etc. It also fits in perfectly with the melodic hardcore revival that Koyo, Anxious, and OSC are leading.

Chat Pile have shared “Masc,” the second single from their upcoming sophomore album Cool World. It has some of the band’s heaviest, sludgiest riffs yet, and it’s also one of their most brooding songs, with a somber delivery from vocalist Raygun Busch. It’s “the saddest Chat Pile song since ‘Tenkiller,’” Raygun says. “Unlike the rest of the album, this song deals with horrors of interpersonal intimacy, yet it is connected with the rest of the record through the overarching theme of oppression, despair and malaise.”

Early-’80s cable-knit-sweater-wearing new wave greats Haircut 100 only made one album with original lead singer and main songwriter Nick Heyward. That would be their 1982 debut album, Pelican West, which includes UK/MTV hits “Love Plus One,” “Favourite Shirt (Boy Meets Girl),” and “Fantastic Day.” (Nick left the band for a solo career, and the rest soldiered on for 1984’s Paint and Paint but broke up shortly after.)
