Each week on Polygon, we round up the most notable new releases to streaming and VOD, highlighting the biggest and best new movies for you to watch at home. This week, two of the biggest releases of the year make their debuts for rent: Inside Out 2 and Longlegs. Those movies probably could not be more different, but surely there’s a household out there renting both this weekend. Also of note: John Woo’s remake of his classic hitman movie The Killer launches on Peacock, an exciting new anime movie drops on Netflix, and Kevin Costner’s Western odyssey Horizon: An America Saga — Chapter 1 premieres on Max.

If you’re looking for new movies on Amazon Prime Video, then you’re going to be very happy in August. For action fans, there’s Looper and Face/Off, or even The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Samuel Goldwyn Films has revealed the official trailer for an indie horror creation called Curse of the Sin Eater, marking the feature directorial debut of Texas filmmaker Justin Denton. This initially premiered at Panic Fest 2024 earlier this year, and it'll be out on VOD to watch in September. Rick – a desperate, poor construction worker – makes a deal with a dying business mogul to inherit his billions. Rick soon discovers that the deal, involving eating the man's corpse, also means that he has been cursed to inherit the man's terrifying sins - the many crimes the billionaire committed in order to build his fortune. The film stars Carter Shimp as Rick, Elizabeth Laidlaw, Marcelo Wright, & Larry Yando. This sounds and looks absolutely disgusting and horrifying. What a concept! A truly terrifying way to show how rotten wealth is and how that corruption passes on. Some extra freaky moments in this trailer.

Max announced an October premiere date for the Stephen King adaptation Salem's Lot on Friday. The streaming service did not specify the date in October. Annabelle Comes Home writer/director Gary Dauberman wrote and directed the King adaptation. Dauberman previously adapted the two-part It movie and wrote other Conjuring universe films.
