They were spectators for the majority of the match. They did their job when asked to do so, but precious little was asked. Winks and Oliver Skipp made a convincing pairing in midfield, as tidy as any pairing you’re likely to see. Mavididi was too much for his markers to handle and Kasey McAteer was quiet in the first period but grew into the game in the second half. Ndidi frustrates sometimes as his skills are not always equal to his intelligence and positioning, but he got a deserved goal by being in the right place at the right time. Finally, Jordan Ayew did the job asked of him and did it well. When playing a League Two side, you can’t get too carried away with the positives. Leicester City should handle them without much fuss. You can, however, take a lot of negatives from the match if things don’t go well. A poor result could have created a crisis of confidence and we completely avoided that. Job done.</li><li>We have enough depth to sustain a cup run. We put a pretty decent side on the pitch today without relying too much on our starting XI from the first two league matches. I get the sense that we’re going to see several players in (El Khannouss) and out (Soumare, Cannon), but we legitimately have the bodies to field a representative side and I wasn’t sure that’d be the case.</li><li>It was great to see Will Alves and Greg Popov out there today. Alves has been The Future for several years now and he appears set to take up that mantle again after a long spell on the sidelines due to injury. Popov isn’t a player I expected to see with the first team this year, but I’m excited by what he can bring to the table.
