Roughly two months after being released, veteran catcher Christian Bethancourt joined a rare group, playing a massive role in a 14-10 come-from-behind victory by the Chicago Cubs over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday.According to Stathead, Bethancourt is only the fifth catcher in MLB history to have at least three hits and knock in seven or more runs in a game while batting in the ninth position. The 32-year-old joins a list that includes Mike Zunino (2017), Charles Johnson (2000), Joe Girardi (1999) and Jerry Grote (1981).

Class AAA -- Mick Abel struggled again on Thursday night, allowing seven runs (five earned) on eight hits over 4 2/3 innings. He walked one and struck out six. Abel has now given up nine earned runs in his last two starts (10 innings), pushing his ERA to 6.06 over 21 starts this season with a 1.79 WHIP. It's been a disappointing campaign for the 23-year-old. With the Phillies facing rotation challenges, Abel could have been a candidate for a late-season call-up, but his recent performance suggests he’s not yet ready to take that step.
