At the same time, he was on the school football and basketball teams and served on student council and the homecoming committee.A power forward in basketball and a running back/defensive end on the gridiron, he will continue with football at MC.Snyder was active with several committees at Frontier.“I was on the art and prom committee helping to get things set up,” he said. “I was a member of the float committee for homecoming, working to build the floats for my class for all four years.”<figure><img src="https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?type=thumbnail_580x000&amp;url=31GXbr_0vNpDxLk00" alt="https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?url=31GXbr_0vNpDxLk00" width="1100" height="733" ></figure>Many times during homecoming season, he could be found working on the floats for an hour or two right after getting out of football practice.“You just want to help out and work where you can help the most,” Snyder said. “It was kind of tiring because it was right after football practice and there was all the homework to get caught up and keep up with.”Snyder was also a delegate to the student council and a member of the National Honor Society for two years. In the past year, he and other members of the society completed a community service project.“We raised almost $3,000 for the New Matamoras Pool,” he said.Snyder plans to study petroleum engineering when he continues his academic journey at MC. While in high school, he took some classes at Washington State College of Ohio, earning college credits toward a degree.<figure><img src="https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?type=thumbnail_580x000&amp;url=48kIbG_0vNpDxLk00" alt="https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?url=48kIbG_0vNpDxLk00" width="1100" height="733" ></figure>“I took some math classes and gen ed (general education), things that would ease the process through college,” he said. “I won’t have to take as many credits in college; that has been the nice part of taking the classes I did take.”It also helps with expenses, he added.In addition to school, Snyder has been involved in other activities such as the youth group at church or club sports.“When it came to camps for football, I’d be there; Vacation Bible School, I’d be there,” he said. “When you’re involved in sports, there is a lot of practice so you don’t have a lot of time for other things.“I was always busy during sports season, so there wasn’t much I could do during sports season.”Snyder said he realizes he will have to spend a lot of time on football, during the season and out of season.Although entering the engineering program at Marietta College, Snyder said has not decided on a specific area within the field. He noted there are many career options, but he thinks working in the field might be closer to what he wants.Snyder said he expects the program at Marietta College to be challenging.“Everyone I’ve talked to about the program said it is a rigorous course load,” he said. “You just have to put your head down and focus on your schooling.”He added engineering has been interesting to him.“I’ve always wanted to be an engineer; I’ve always thought the oil and gas industry is pretty cool,” he said. “That’s what I want to be.”Jeffrey Saulton can be reached at jsaulton@newsandsentinel.com.***EDITOR’S NOTE: Ethan Snyder’s girlfriend, Brooklyn Dunn, was also a Parkersburg News and Sentinel Teen of the Week.
