The layoffs are expected to affect 18 metropolitan markets across states such as Arizona, California, Florida, Indiana, Maine, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia. Patients in these regions are being transitioned to other UnitedHealthcare companies.

Optum's restructuring is part of a broader trend in the healthcare industry, where companies are adjusting their workforce and operational footprint to align with evolving market demands and organizational strategies. The impact of these changes will be felt across the affected communities in California, where Optum has been a significant employer.
