( NewsNation ) — Media critic Steve Krakauer believes Kamala Harris and Donald Trump are competing for the presidency in a way that suggests “reality doesn’t matter.”

“Vibes over reality is where it is,” Krakauer said during a Thursday appearance on NewsNation’s “ On Balance .” “We’ve seen success with the Harris-Walz camo hat that they’re selling . … This is not authentic camo from, you know, hunters that are killing the animals and eating them. This is the ironic kind of camo that, you know, (are worn by) the Brooklyn hipsters who are eating ramen noodles. … It’s all about the vibe. It’s all about the feeling, rather than the reality of what’s going on.”

The Harris-Walz campaign has sold nearly $1 million worth of now sold-out camo hats branded orange with “Harris Walz” in the day since they were released, the campaign confirmed. “You asked, we answered,” the campaign said on its online store . “The most iconic political hat in America.”

The campaign said it had originally printed 3,000 hats and that sold out in less than 30 minutes. The hat sold for $40 and was American and union made.

Krakauer wrote an opinion piece that said, in part, in 2024, “you might get picked as VP because you said the word “weird” on television.” Minnesota’s Democratic Governor Tim Walz was named Vice President Harris’s running mate this week, and Krakauer examines: “How did we get here?”

Krakauer references multiple outlets that report Walz’s “weird comment” actually played a factor in why he was ultimately named Harris’s running mate.” He came up with the “weird” talking point that people seemed to enjoy on social media, so now he has a shot at being a heartbeat away from the presidency.”
