FLORENCE, S.C. ( WBTW ) — A man who tripped over a rope holding down Buc-ee’s large inflatable beaver mascot in Florence County, South Carolina, is suing the company for injuries he sustained in the fall.

Richard E. Brown, of Kershaw County, was walking on the sidewalk on May 22, 2022 when he “tripped over a rope that was running from the base of the Buc-ee’s inflatable Beaver mascot to the anchor point,” the lawsuit claims.

The complaint says Brown sustained several injuries, most notably to his right shoulder.

“Prior to the …incident, Defendant was aware of the dangerous condition of the rope that was holding the inflatable Beaver in place,” the suit, filed August 1 in Florence County Common Pleas Court, says.

Brown is suing Buc-ee’s for negligence and seeking unspecified financial damages. NewsNation affiliate WBTW reached out to Buc-ee’s for comment and will update as they hear back.
