TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A Florida duo was arrested for possessing enough fentanyl to kill nearly 20,000 people, according to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office.

On Wednesday, deputies searched a suspected drug house, located at 2265 44th Terrace Southwest— a home directly across the street from a neighborhood park where children play.

Detectives found 318 fentanyl pills inside an efficient, marked “M 30,” in an attempt to resemble prescription oxycodone hydrochloride 30mg pills, the sheriff’s office said. The fentanyl weighed a total of 34.1 grams, which is enough to kill 17,050 people.

Methamphetamine and $13,380 in cash were also seized from the home.

Maikel Raul Felipe Bernal, 42, and Yusbelkin Clemente-Vega, 39, were charged with trafficking fentanyl over 28 grams. Bernal had $6,000 in cash on him at the time of his arrest and is facing an additional charge for the possession of meth.

“If you’re going to peddle poison in this community and threaten the safety of children, our detectives are coming to get you and you will be held accountable,” Sheriff Kevin Rambosk said.

Detectives said the way that the money was broken down indicated the sale of narcotics.
