Migrant children: A new Department of Homeland Security report argues Immigration and Customs Enforcement cannot account for unaccompanied immigrant children at the border. The report reveals more than 32,000 unaccompanied children did not attend their immigration hearings between the fiscal years of 2019 and 2023, and nearly 300,000 children that came across the southern border alone never even got a court date. Biden program paused: A federal judge in Texas paused a Biden administration policy that would give spouses of U.S. citizens legal status without having to first leave the country. The stay comes after 16 states led by Republican attorneys general challenged the program that could benefit an estimated 500,000 immigrants in the U.S. and about 50,000 of their children. ‘El Mayo’ fighting transfer: Federal prosecutors want Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada to face drug charges in New York first, even though the reputed Sinaloa cartel leader was arrested in the El Paso, Texas, region. Zambada has been indicted on drug charges in West Texas, in Brooklyn, in Chicago and in California. He stands to be tried first in the same courthouse that his former partner Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman was tried and convicted. Appeals court: Special counsel Jack Smith is urging a federal appeals court to reinstate the classified documents case against former President Donald Trump. Smith argued the judge’s decision to dismiss the prosecution runs counter to longstanding Department of Justice practices and should be reversed. Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung said “not only should the dismissal of the Lawless Indictment in Florida be affirmed, but be immediately joined by a dismissal of ALL the Witch Hunts.” It’s not clear how long it will take the appeals court to decide on the matter. Docs case: The classified documents case, one of four federal and state prosecutions brought against Trump, includes dozens of felony charges. In the case, Trump is accused of illegally retaining classified documents from his presidency at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida, and obstructing the government’s efforts to get them back. ‘Ozempictown’: Bowling Green, Kentucky, has been nicknamed “Ozempictown, USA,” since it has more people taking the popular weight loss drug Ozempic than anywhere else in the U.S. The popular weight loss solution has taken off in the small Kentucky city, partly because of how affordable it has become. Kohberger trial: Defense attorneys for Bryan Kohberger , the man accused of killing four University of Idaho students in 2022, warn that a “mob mentality” against their client justifies the need to move his trial out of Moscow and into Boise, Idaho, instead. If Kohberger’s case ends in acquittal, “Outrage would be a mild description” and “They’d burn the courthouse down,” one resident reportedly told a defense expert in a phone survey of hundreds of potential jurors, according to documents obtained by Court TV. An attorney for the family of victim Kaylee Goncalves told NewsNation’s Ashleigh Banfield the victims’ families want the trial to remain in Latah County. Full report >
Idaho college killings: The trial for Kohberger is expected to start next June. He faces four murder charges in connection with the November 2022 stabbing deaths of Ethan Chapin, Xana Kernodle, Madison Mogen and Kaylee Goncalves in their off-campus home in Moscow, Idaho. Travis King: An Army private who fled to North Korea just over a year ago will plead guilty to desertion and four other charges, his lawyer said Monday. Travis King’s attorney said he intends to admit guilt to five military offenses, but nine other offenses, including alleged possession of sexual images of a child, will be withdrawn and dismissed in a deal. King is expected to appear at a Sept. 20 hearing at Fort Bliss, Texas. Read more >

Diddy: Hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs was one of the investors identified in a list of names behind Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter . Last week, a federal judge ordered Musk to unseal a list with the names of shareholders of X Holdings Corp., who helped the entrepreneur buy the social media platform — which he rebranded as X — for $44 billion in October 2022.
