Nashville SC player ‘foul language’ under investigation: MLS

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Major League Soccer (MLS) is investigating an incident involving ‘offensive language’ from a Nashville Soccer Club player.

During his first career start with MLS, Nashville SC midfielder Patrick Yazbek was substituted out for Jonathan Pérez during the first half of Saturday night’s match against Austin Football Club.

Prior to the substitution, Yazbek fouled Austin FC midfielder Owen Wolff in the 30th minute. Shortly after that, Yazbek allegedly used “abusive language” on the pitch, according to the match’s play-by-play broadcasters. Discussion following the call between the referee with Nashville SC and Austin FC’s captains and head coaches resulted in a six-minute delay of the match.

A statement posted on X from the team said, “Nashville SC is aware of the allegations that have surfaced regarding the use of offensive language by one of our players. The club is in close communication with Major League Soccer and other relevant parties and will refrain from making any further comments until the league concludes its investigation into the incident.”

A spokesperson for MLS sent the following statement to NewsNation affiliate WKRN in response to the incident: “Major League Soccer is currently investigating allegations that a player violated the MLS Non-Discrimination Policy.”

WKRN also reached out to Austin FC for a comment, but we have not heard back.

With Saturday night’s 2-0 loss to Austin FC, Nashville SC has had seven straight losses.

Coming up on Aug. 31, Nashville SC will travel south to face Orlando City SC in the second and final regular-season meeting between the clubs, kicking off at 6:30 p.m. CT.
