UPDATE, 4:46 p.m.: Draper officials say new information has been brought to light in their investigation of this morning’s attempted child abduction after further interviews of both the victims and suspects.

“After concluding those interviews, detectives are still collecting evidence,” stated a release. “After the investigation, the case will be turned over to the Salt Lake District Attorney’s Office for consideration of any charges. The Draper Police Department does not believe there is a threat to the public.”

ORIGINAL POST: DRAPER, Utah ( ABC4 ) — Draper Police have a man and a woman in custody after they said the woman attempted to take a one-month-old baby from a car seat in the parking lot of a business in the 11400 block of State St.

The woman attempted to leave the scene in a minivan driven by the man. Both were located by police a short distance away and taken into custody without incident. No names have yet been released.

According to a press release from police, the mother was placing the baby in its car seat when the female suspect approached her. The two women did not know one another, but the mother was able to fight the suspect off and get away to contact police.

The attempted abduction happened around 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 29.

“Officers and detectives are actively investigating this incident,” stated the release. “Additional details will be provided as they are available.”

Draper Police say that anyone who has had a similar experience should contact their local law enforcement agency to report it.
