Harris holds 4-point lead over Trump, unchanged from before DNC: Poll

Vice President Harris did not see a significant boost in support following the Democratic National Convention, maintaining a slight lead over former President Trump in a new national poll.

A new ABC News/Ipsos poll, released Sunday , found Harris edged Trump out 50 percent to 46 percent among all adults and registered voters. When it came to likely voters, Harris led Trump 52 percent to 46 percent.

Pollsters noted the findings are similar and statistically unchanged from a poll in August. According to an ABC News/Washington Post/Ipsos poll before the convention , Harris had 49 percent of support among registered voters, while Trump had 45 percent.

All eyes have been on the polling released following last month’s Democratic National Convention to see whether the vice president would experience a post-convention boost, as some candidates have in the past. The poll was conducted beginning Aug. 23, the day after the convention’s final night.

Although most of the numbers were generally unchanged from before the Democratic convention, Harris widened the gender gap, pollsters noted. Harris led by 13 points among women — 54 percent to 41 percent — while Trump led 5 points among men — 51 percent to 46 percent. Before the convention, Harris was up 6 points among women, pollsters said.

Harris also fared better when it came to campaigns, with 56 percent of Americans stating she has done an excellent or good job running her campaign. About 41 percent said the same for Trump, while most had a more negative view of the campaign, according to the poll.

Trump, for his part, outperformed Harris on trust over key issues, including the economy and inflation, which he led by 8 points in each category. He had a 9-point lead over Harris when it comes to trust in handling the U.S.-Mexico border situation.

The vice president is viewed as more trustworthy than Trump when it comes to protecting American Democracy and appointments to the Supreme Court, pollsters noted.

It follows a series of other polls showing Harris holding on to a razor-thin edge over Trump, who has largely dismissed the boost in support for the vice president.

According to a polling index by The Hill and Decision Desk HQ, Harris has a 3.8-point national lead over Trump.

The ABC News/Ipsos poll was conducted Aug. 23-27 and involved 2,496 completed interviews. The margin of sampling error is 2.1 percentage points at the 95 percent confidence level.
