Florida deputy’s gun taken from gas station, sold online for $40

( NewsNation ) — A Seminole County, Florida, sheriff deputy’s gun was taken from a gas station bathroom and resold online for $40, according to a local news outlet .

The deputy stopped for a restroom break at a RaceTrac in Oviedo, about 19 miles northeast of Orlando, when he placed his gun belt over the bathroom stall railing. Shortly after leaving the store with the gun belt on, the deputy noticed his firearm was missing, according to the local affiliate WESH.

Surveillance video shows a man allegedly leaving with a “noticeable bulge” on his waist, walking out with another man who is a convicted felon, according to the local outlet.

The two men told police they found the gun in the restroom, and at one point it was “sticking out of the toilet paper roll.”

Detectives say the men sold the gun for $40 through CashApp, a financial app that allows users to send and receive money.

Both face multiple charges, including grand theft of a firearm. The deputy will face a professional standards review for leaving the gun in the bathroom. Officials successfully recovered the weapon, the local outlet reported.
