( NewsNation ) — McDonald’s, which has installed cashless ordering kiosks in its restaurants in the past few years, is now working on a new generation of digital ordering stations that will take cash and make change.

“These changes allow franchisees to meet our customers’ increased desire for digital options while improving speed and accuracy,” the company said in a story originally reported by Bloomberg.

McDonald’s is installing the first of the new cash kiosks in the restaurants the corporation owns. The shift will be optional for franchisees, who operate 95% of all McDonald’s.

By last fall, McDonald’s said that 40% of its business was being done via app, delivery or kiosks. It also says the move won’t cost anyone their job; workers will be redeployed to other tasks.

The company says ordering kiosks are a win-win for restaurants and customers, who won’t feel the pressure of promptly speaking their order to someone behind a counter. And it says that app users earn points for their purchases, and often tend to “upsell” themselves by adding more items to their orders.
