LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – Las Vegas police are searching for the driver of a car after cameras caught an injured woman appearing to fall out of it and onto the road before she died.

It happened on Tuesday at 2:05 p.m. when a caller reported seeing the unidentified 38-year-old Las Vegas woman. The caller stated that she was lying against a curb on Polaris Avenue north of Highland Drive.

Before the woman was spotted, a nearby business video surveillance camera captured a 2013 Ford Fusion traveling south on Polaris Avenue, approaching Highland Drive. The Ford pulled over to the west curb and stopped. The vehicle’s front passenger door opened, and the pedestrian appeared to fall out of the vehicle and onto the roadway, where an uninvolved southbound motorist later discovered her, Las Vegas Metropolitan police stated.

The Ford’s driver then continued south, leaving the scene. The vehicle
was later located by detectives unoccupied in the northeast area of the valley, police said.

The injured woman was later taken to the hospital in critical condition. Shortly after her arrival, she was pronounced dead.

An investigation conducted by the Clark County Coroner’s Office revealed that the woman had injuries consistent with being hit by an unknown vehicle.

Due to the Coroner’s findings, the investigation was assigned to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s Collision Investigation Section.

The pedestrian’s death will not be counted as a traffic fatality in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s jurisdiction for 2024 until the completion of the Clark County Office of the Coroner/Medical Examiner investigation. This collision remains under investigation by the LVMPD’s collision investigation Section.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s Collision Investigation Section at 702-828-3595. To remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.
