Weather: Hurricane Helene is forecast to make landfall Thursday evening as a major hurricane, threatening Florida’s coast and southern Georgia with the potential for “unsurvivable” storm surges as high as 20 feet and “catastrophic” winds up to 130 mph. Executive order: President Joe Biden is set to sign an executive order Thursday that aims to help schools create active shooter drills that are less traumatic for students. Under the order, his administration will research how active shooter drills may cause trauma and help schools with drills that “maximize their effectiveness and limit any collateral harms they might cause,” Stefanie Feldman, the director of Biden’s office of gun violence prevention, told The Associated Press. Hearing: A congressional task force investigating the assassination attempts against former President Donald Trump will hold its first hearing Thursday. The panel, made up of six Democrats and seven Republicans, has spent two months looking into security failures surrounding the July 13 assassination attempt targeting Trump at a Pennsylvania campaign rally. Now, the lawmakers are also combing through information on this month’s apparent assassination attempt of Trump at a Florida golf course.
