Two people were inside the stolen sedan that was reportedly taken at gunpoint from a victim at a gas station in Lynwood, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
The driver was seen traveling over 100 mph while weaving dangerously on the 105 and 710 interstates.
They drove to the LAX area before heading toward Long Beach as California Highway Patrol units trailed closely behind.
At times, the passenger was seen repeatedly sitting on the passenger-side windowsill while gesturing at officers and possibly taking photos and video of the chase on his phone.
After puncturing and eventually losing the front driver’s side tire, the suspects pulled over on I-710 near the Alondra Boulevard exit in Compton before ditching the vehicle and fleeing on foot.
They ran down a nearby embankment before the passenger laid down and surrendered to officers. The driver escaped out of sight as officers continued searching the brush area.
After a short search, the driver was located and taken into custody.
Traffic on I-710 was backed up for miles before officers reopened the roads.
