MEMPHIS, Tenn. — After three full days of testimonies from ten witnesses, prosecutors believe they have presented enough evidence to convict Justin Johnson for the murder of Memphis rapper Young Dolph.

Court began on with the judge reading Johnson’s charges to the jury. Charges in the indictment that Johnson has pleaded not guilty to include, Conspiracy to Commit First-Degree Murder, First Degree Murder, and Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm.

    Closing statements were then followed.

Prosecutors argue that based on testimonies, the $100k hit was put out by “Big Jook.” They claim Johnson followed Young Dolph’s car to the cookie shop parking lot, got out, shot, and killed him.

On Wednesday, Johnson’s attorney asked for him to be acquitted, but the judge denied that request and said it was up to the jury.

A digital forensic expert took to the stand by testifying cell phone towers show where Johnson made contact around key locations before and after the shooting.

An MPD investigator testified that Johnson’s call history shows him calling Anthony Mims, also known as “Big Jook”, minutes after the fatal shooting.

Big Jook is the second high-up at CMG Records, which is a rival of Young Dolph. Big Jook is also the big brother of another Memphis rapper Yo Gotti.

Johnson briefly took the stand and said he had chosen not to testify on his behalf.
