BROOKLYN, New York (WJW) – Police in New York have released CCTV footage as they search for a woman who allegedly stole an electric wheelchair in a slow getaway.

The incident occurred on a recent Sunday when 70-year-old Rosalyn Johnson left her wheelchair unattended while she entered a nearby shop on her way to church.

“It’s disheartening to see this happen,” Johnson told local media. “For it to be a woman, you’re supposed to help other women.”

In a positive turn, the NYPD visited Johnson shortly after the theft and presented her with a “nearly identical” electric wheelchair. The replacement was funded by donations from the police foundation, according to local media.

Police are still looking for the wheelchair thief.
