BURNET COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) — The Burnet County Sheriff’s Office in Texas is asking for help locating suspects after an incident at a church Sunday morning.

The BCSO said that deputies responded to the church — located on North U.S. Highway 281 — around 10:30 a.m. after a 911 caller requested police to the church’s address, according to a BCSO social media post .

“The safety team member stated that he confronted two suspicious males outside the church, one of whom presented a rifle. The safety team member fired multiple rounds causing both males to enter a white minivan and flee the scene, driving northbound on US 281,” BCSO said.

NewsNation affiliate KXAN spoke with Kyle Byrd, the founder of the church, who said members of the church were shaken by the incident. They were also grateful the church security member was there and nothing escalated.

Burnet County Sheriff Calvin Boyd said there were no reported injuries during the incident.

“The (security) team member actually shot at the subjects, and they both got in the vehicle,” Boyd told KXAN. “We don’t have any evidence of anybody being injured, and we haven’t been able to locate the vehicle.”

A large police presence was still situated in front of the church as of Sunday evening.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Burnet County Sheriff’s Office at 512-756-8080. BCSO sent an alert Sunday morning asking for help getting any footage of what happened from north-facing cameras near the 2400 block of N. US-281 that was taken between 3-11 a.m.

BCSO confirmed it is investigating the incident with the help of state and federal law enforcement agencies, including the FBI.

The Lampasas Police Department posted on Facebook about the incident, saying it added additional patrols to the city and churches out of an abundance of caution.

“Out of an abundance of caution, the Lampasas Police Department immediately called in additional staff and supervision to patrol our city, specifically our churches,” the post read. “We have coordinated with other local law enforcement agencies to be on high alert and ready to deter or respond immediately to any incidents that might occur.”

LPD’s post noted, “that no related incidents have occurred in or around our city.”
