A deranged traveler from New Jersey consumed excessive amounts of marijuana-infused edibles, then attempted to engage in sexual activity with a flight attendant and open the aircraft's door while it was in the air, leading to an emergency landing in Utah, as reported by federal officials who apprehended him.

Eric Nicholas Gapco, 26, from Delanco, was aboard American Airlines flight 2101 from Seattle to Dallas on July 18 when he started behaving in a disruptive manner, according to the US Attorney’s Office for the District of Utah.

Gapco removed his shirt and started inhaling from a vape pen, shouting and making advances towards a flight attendant, asking her out for sex, according to reports and authorities.

The unruly traveler, who eventually confessed to consuming 10 marijuana-infused edibles prior to the incident, is said to have also attacked a flight crew member and attempted to pry open the aircraft's outer doors several times, as reported by federal authorities.

Disorderly video recordings are said to depict Gapco unclothed and yelling "I am sane!" while colleagues attempt to soothe him close to the aircraft's restroom, as reported by KSLTV.

When he declined to sit down, flight attendants tied his hands and feet with chains — as the pilot decided to make an urgent landing in Salt Lake City, officials reported.

On the plane, Gapco was accused of attempting to give a different traveler a package of unknown pills, as per the charges.

He claimed he was not involved in any unlawful activities but confessed to his arresting officer that he consumed around 10 marijuana-infused edibles — unaware of their potency, as stated in legal records.

Gapco was detained at the Salt Lake City International Airport — accused of shattering a glass door and spitting at a police officer while being apprehended, as stated by the prosecution.

"He persisted in his aggressive behavior" and "displayed hostility towards medical personnel and law enforcement," as detailed in a request for his confinement.

The bizarre case is now being investigated by FBI Salt Lake City Field Office and Salt Lake City Police Department.
