Vandalized: ‘Freedom’ Portraits Of Kamala Harris In Chicago During DNC By Trump And RFK Jr. Supporters

A pparently, while Day 3 of the Democratic National Convention was happening in Chicago, salty supporters of Donald Trump and Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. were touring the city so they could vandalize pieces of art dedicated to Vice President Kamala Harris, namely, the “Freedom” portrait of Harris created by Black woman visual artist Victoria Cassinova.

“Last night a small group of RFK, Jr. and Trump supporters marched up a Chicago street near the United Center (Ashland Park, between Lake and Maypole, near the All Rise Brewing Company), armed with spray paint cans and cameras, to deface artist Victoria Cassinova’s ‘Kamala Harris: Freedom ,’” said Kawana Lloyd, the press secretary for non-profit political action group People For the American Way , in an emailed statement to NewsOne.

“At a time when ‘hope is making a comeback,’ it’s a bit jarring to see a bunch of folks march to a location to deface such a powerful and hopeful piece that’s clearly loved AND being picked up by social media and traditional media as featured b-roll.”

No one should be surprised that Trump supporters, much like their MAGA messiah, are so afraid and angry at the run for Trump’s money Harris is giving the MAGA world in the 2024 presidential race that they’re lashing out with childish attacks and vandalism. It shouldn’t be much more surprising to witness the same behavior from followers of a non-Republican politician who is almost as much of a baseless conspiracy theorist who whitesplains racism to Black people as Trump is.

In fact, sources have reported that RFK Jr. is expected to end his long-shot run for the presidency and endorse Trump by the end of the week.

Anyway, Svante L. Myrick, the former mayor of Ithaca, New York, who is currently serving as executive director of People For the American Way, shared video footage of the Harris portraits being vandalized, and he assured the public that his organization is “going to put Victoria Cassinova’s beautiful portrait back up” and “post it on billboards and murals across the country.”

Myrick added,

…with the staff this morning and we’ve decided to double down. We are going to put Victoria Cassinova’s beautiful portrait back up. We’ll post it on billboards and murals across the country. When they destroy, we’ll create more. Let me know if you want a poster.

November is only a few short months away, but the road to electing Kamala Harris is still a long one. Stay vigilant, my friends, because the folks on the other side certainly will.
