Here’s a question: If immigrants crossing the southern border are as dangerous, violent and prone to criminality as Donald Trump and his followers say they are — then how come they’re not the ones who keep trying to kill him?
For the second time, a gunman has been thwarted in his alleged attempt to assassinate the former president. And just like the first time , the would-be assassin is an assault rifle-toting white American male.

On Sunday, 58-year-old Ryan Wesley Routh was taken into custody after he allegedly pointed an AK-style rifle with a scope in the direction of Trump while standing 400 to 500 yards away from Trump’s golf club in West Palm Beach, Florida. Routh’s social media activity suggests he was once a Trump supporter but became disillusioned with the ex-president during his time in office.
Predictably, as soon as the news on Routh broke, MAGA America took to social media to spread the word that he’s a leftist Democrat. They likely had to run with this false narrative lest they be forced to reckon with the fact that, once again, the dangerous thug who tried to kill the other dangerous thug is a white, all-American, gun-toting male who is not just a former Trump supporter, but also a COVID conspiracy theorist who could have been an honored guest at a Trump rally just eight short years ago.
Oh, come on now, MAGA America, stop with all of the online quibbling about Routh’s party affiliation and ideology and start giving him and his entire demographic the same energy you give migrants for creating a massive surge in violent crime that doesn’t actually exist .
How about a persistent internet rumor about wayward white men abducting and eating everyone’s pets ? Migrants didn’t even have to be serial killers who wear their victims’ skin on their faces for Trump to compare them to Hannibal Lecter repeatedly. The least he could do is refer to white men like the ones who keep trying to gun him down as the new Sons of Sam or Jeffrey Dahmer while going out of his way to slander them as “animals” who are “not human.”
According to the Greensboro News & Record , Routh was arrested in North Carolina in 2002 after an armed standoff with police officers, during which he reportedly carried a fully automatic machine gun. Seriously, we have got to get these dangerous, bottom-feeding white men out of the country!
Look, all I’m saying is it’s clear that when these red states send their people, they’re not sending their best. They’re sending people that have lots of problems. They’re bringing guns. They’re bringing crime. They’re crazed murderers.
And some, I assume, are good people.
