A large healthcare network in South Florida is being sued for illegally sharing patient information to Facebook's parent company.

The Palm Beach Health Network operates several healthcare facilities and hospitals in the county, including Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center, which is named in the federal lawsuit.

It claims that the health network's websites share code with Meta to target patients who use those sites to send them ads on Facebook.

The lead plaintiff says "highly sensitive personal information" was shared, which is a HIPAA violation.

Ron Prosky used the hospital's website and patient portal to search for doctors and review his medical records for a specific health issue and then started seeing ads on Facebook relating to his "particular medical conditions and treatments."

The suit seeks damages and is just one of many of its kind across the country.
