Marion County, FL - A Florida man is facing charges after allegedly stealing merchandise from a Walmart and attempting to conceal it in a trash can.

According to the Marion County Sheriff's Office, 38-year-old Eric Slaughter was arrested on Tuesday following an incident at the Walmart on Bahia Avenue.

Store loss prevention personnel observed Slaughter purchasing a trash can but concealing additional unpaid items within a second, empty can.

The stolen merchandise included a solar light and a pair of shoes, with a total value exceeding $80.

Deputies say Slaughter admitted to switching price tags on the shoes and taking the trash cans, but claimed to be unaware of the solar light.

Surveillance footage corroborated his involvement in the theft.

Slaughter has a history of theft-related offenses dating back to 2006.

He is currently incarcerated at the Marion County Jail on felony larceny charges.
